On July 31, 2026, Lowcountry Acceleration Academy celebrated the expansion of its tuition-free public charter high school with the opening of a second location in Summerville. The new academy offers a hybrid learning model, expanding educational opportunities for students who have faced obstacles that prevented them from progressing in high school or who need a learning environment better suited to their individual circumstances.
Authorized by South Carolina Public Charter School District, Lowcountry Acceleration Academy gives local high school students an alternative learning experience. Students who have fallen behind on credits or left school before graduation can reconnect and get back on a plan toward earning a high school diploma.
“Lowcountry Acceleration Academy provides a personalized learning experience that empowers high school students to earn their high school diploma in a way that meets their unique needs. Our student-centered approach focuses on helping each learner achieve academic success through personalized instruction, flexible scheduling, and ongoing support,” said Wayne Stevens, Academy Director of Lowcountry Acceleration Academy. “We are committed to serving students who have experienced challenges in a traditional school setting. Whether a student needs a more flexible schedule, individualized attention, or a different learning environment, our dedicated staff works alongside each student to develop a plan that builds confidence, promotes success, and keeps them on the path to graduation. At Lowcountry Acceleration Academy, every student has the opportunity to succeed because we believe learning should be tailored to the individual, not the other way around.”
Lowcountry Acceleration Academy operates on a year-round calendar with a hybrid learning model that blends in-person academic coaching at the Academy with an online curriculum that is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Students take one class at a time and each course is designed to be completed in 2-4 weeks. For those who once felt overwhelmed by the traditional school day and juggling multiple subjects at once, taking one course at a time allows them to stay focused, build momentum and make clear progress toward graduation.

Lowcountry Acceleration Academy serves Charleston-area students from two campuses, one in North Charleston and this new location at 216 Myers Rd in Summerville.
