The first-ever graduating class from Marion County Acceleration Academies (MCAA) took a star turn in the Ocala StarBanner newspaper and website after a festive commencement ceremony held April 11, 2024.
The story focused on several grads, including Dylan Dotten, who came to MCAA for help in passing the standardized state testing required of all Florida high school graduates. MCAA’s flexible schedule allowed Dylan to hold down a full-time job as he completed his education.
“Fantastic,” Dylan’s mother, Stephanie, said of the support Dylan had received. “Acceleration Academies helped him achieve his goal.”
Acceleration Academies Co-Founder Mark Graves told the grads and their supporters that the diplomas in their hands celebrated young people “who did not give up on themselves.” Regional Vice President Valtena Brown said the grads “will go to great places.” And MCAA interim Director Keyana Lyde said the grads would enjoy “one success and yet another.”
