What is Cobb Acceleration Academies?
Cobb Acceleration Academies (CAA) serves Cobb County students in middle school and high school who are referred to the alternative education program.*
*Students enrolled with the alternative education program for the 2023-24 school year will continue their academics under the guidance and enhanced support services of CAA.
Cobb Acceleration Academies introduces a network of mentors and life coaches in conjunction with the Cobb County School District Alternative Education Counselor who collaboratively aim to foster a nurturing environment that addresses non-academic barriers faced by young adults in need of additional support.
Our staff of certified teachers and mentors provide wrap-around support for students, who we call Graduation Candidates.
Our collaborative approach provides students with support for understanding life challenges while developing their own personal growth plan, self-regulation strategies, and paths beyond graduation.
Assessments specifically tailored for students requiring targeted support are implemented, facilitating a more informed and responsive approach to student interventions.
Staff are trained in restorative practices, nonverbal and verbal de-escalation, and provide positive behavioral interventions and support.
Laptops and headsets will be provided at the academies and students can check out a laptop when they want to work from home.
Acceleration Academies services are provided at no cost.
Academically, students will transition to CAA and continue their academic classwork in CTLS. Students will also use Edmentum, an online content management system, for some of their course work.
The academy learning environment is set up with intentionality for our students. The setup includes clear lines of sight, adaptive layouts, flexible seating and standing desks, multi-textured furniture, and communal seating.
Students are scheduled to attend school during specific attendance blocks each day. All students are expected to attend for a minimum of 12 hours in person + 8 hours virtually.
On a case-by-case basis, some students will be enrolled exclusively in virtual classes.
There are five attendance sessions available during each day. Students will be designated to a session during Orientation.
*Students receiving special education services can choose any session, but Cobb County School District Transportation can only provide transportation during these times
Students will be transitioned back to the local school based upon the decision of the hearing or waiver. A Transition to Return meeting will be scheduled and held at the local school of the student prior to the reentry. If a student cannot attend the Transition to Return meeting, it is recommended that the local school meets with the student and family prior to the start of the next semester and/or school year.
At this time, we are not accepting applications for this program. Students can only be referred to Cobb Acceleration Academies (CAA) via their local school.
